So far so good with the oatmeal. I have given her more at a time and made it thicker, and she seems to dig it! I let her grab the spoon, as you can see. I am glad she is so eager to do it herself.
Time to move on to more exciting foods. Squash, perhaps?

Daddy's Girl
Quality time with Daddy is the best. It's great when Jonathan can make it home from work in time to say goodnight to Sadie (and take over the nightly Saying Goodnight to Third Street before bed).
She just think he is so neat. His beard is one of her favorite toys! Here are some pics of Sadie hanging with her Pop (although a couple of them seem to be of a fierce and terrifying bear cub that must have broken into the house to take a bath). Enjoy!

Baby Shower
Saturday we all went to the baby shower of my friends Maren and Dominic, whom I met though the Bats, the theater company I was with last year. There were lots of babies under 1 there, including Elrod, who is just a few weeks older than Sadie.
It was great for Sadie to see so many other tiny people, and for me to introduce her to so many actor friends I hadn't seen since I was pregnant this time last year.
It keeps amazing me how different babies can be at the same age. There was another little 5-month old with a full head of lush brown hair! It made him look like a tiny version of much older kid.
Maren and Dom live close by, so we are very much looking forward to having playdates with them and going for walks when the weather is Warner.

Sadie's First Real Food!
Sadie had her first real food yesterday. It was some very very watered down organic instant baby oatmeal. See how she does.
So, as you can see, she isn't leaping in, but she is getting better and seems very curious.

Some recent Sadie
The other evening while V was out, Sadie woke up and began fussing and would not calm down and go to sleep for me. I tried all sorts of stuff: I shushed her, I bounced her, I read to her, I played with the guitar with her, I talked and sang and tried feeding her. I did most everything, but to no avail. Finally, I took her downstairs for a change of scenery, thinking that maybe I could exhaust her back to sleep.
Then I had an idea: since she is always interested in Jasper and he was very mellow, I figured maybe he could calm her so I put her in his bed with him and she suddenly got very quiet and respectful. They both regarded each other for a long while very calmly. Neither minded much although Jasper eventually got tired of sharing his bed and got up to go lay elsewhere on the rug. It didn't put her to sleep but it gave me a break from bouncing and shushing her and she seemed pretty content (or maybe just perplexed).
And here are some unrelated recent pix.

Sadie's Christmas Finery!
Sadie's outfit for Christmas dinner was just too splendid to be believed. So excellent, in fact, that it deserves its own post. (click any pic to enlarge)
She looks like such a big girl!!
And Sadie spent lots of time with Grandma Vicki.
California Wrap-up
We've been back for a couple weeks now and I just got around to downloading all my photos from the trip. Looking back at the pictures it turns out we had a really nice time and saw an awful lot of our favorite people. (click any pic to enlarge)
First, the Big B came to call on Sadie.

Then Grandma India rushed over from Pinnacles.
I walked with my lovely wife on West Cliff.
And Sadie got all dressed up for Christmas dinner. (more of these pix to come!)
And Grandma India came back - because who can stay away from our girl?!
And we went to SF and visited Treasure Island with David.
And our cousins from the North were so splendid as to make the long drive down to SF to hang out with us for a day.
All in all, an excellent vacation!!
Half a Year!!
Sadie turned 6 months old yesterday and she is better than ever. Plus, just recently it has become apparent that Sadie and her weird furry brother really like one another.
Happy Half Birthday, Sadie!!!
