Papa Solution!

Sadie was very excited to go for her first bike ride of the Summer with me yesterday. We were supposed to go when she woke up from her nap, but she never took a nap.
Anyway, we headed out mid-afternoon with Sadie in her little seat on the back of my bike and she was in high spirits. When we reached the park she announced that she wanted to do ten laps around the park, but we compromised on three. The plan was to stop at the carousel after the second lap and ride "the horses that go round and round".
Sadie was as chatty as could be for the whole first lap. She was pointing to things and asking questions and being generally gregarious.  As we passed the carousel on the first lap she pointed it out and said she wanted to go on it.  My mistake for not stopping right away.
She started to get quiet early in the second lap and by the time we reached the carousel Sadie was out cold.  Sitting upright with her big helmet on, she couldn't keep her head up and she was flopping forward so her helmet bumped my back. Anyway, I had to figure out something quick to try to preserve her nap.
So, I stopped at the top of a hill and asked a nice stranger to help hold my bike up while I pulled her seat off the bike and rested it on a little slope in the shade of a tree. It was hot but lovely out and she slept for over an hour.  I was pretty proud of my improvisation.
Sadie woke up pretty groggy but then she rallied for a picnic in the park with three other couples we know and their kids.
It was a long lovely day outdoors.

Summer fun

It is heating up here, and they finally turned on the fountains at the playground. I have a feeling we will be spending a lot of time there this summer. It always take forever to convince her to get her swimsuit on and get wet, but then she's unstoppable.
She starts morning camp week after next, which will include pool swims once a week and park trips. Gabriel will be there too!

Uncle Preston

Uncle Preston had a day off from reserve duty up at West Point, and he used it to pop down and see us for the day. Sadie was thrilled and made sure to wear him right out.
