Ixtapa: Thursday - White Dinner

Tonight was the big dinner on the beach and we're all supposed to wear white. We did our best. 

More interesting is Sawyer's commitment to not smiling for one photo. He just won't do it. He finally bent over and put the top of his head on the ground and waited for me to give up. 

Ixtapa: Thursday - Athena!

Sadie found an activity she really enjoys - Archery! She is methodical and patient and focused as she nocks her arrows and let's them fly. She rarely hits the target, but she keeps at it and isn't discouraged. Our little girl is amazing! 

I watched for a few minutes yesterday and today and had to pull myself away for fear she would become self conscious with me there.

Ixtapa: Wednesday - Our Private Pool

It turns out that when Mini Club is out for the day, nobody uses their pool and it is the coldest most refreshing private fun pool in the whole place. So we have gone there the past few days after club is over. 

It's GREAT! 

Ixtapa: Wednesday - S&S Making & Being Friends

Tonight was the Mini Club Talent Show. When Sadie told me she was going to sing a song with her new friends Julia and Eloise, I said OK with really no idea what to expect. So she went to pre-show dinner at 7pm with Mini Club while Sawyer and I went to dinner with his friend Mia (Julia's little sister) and her parents who I've been hanging out with. 

The show was at 8:15 and the mini club GOs (GOs are camp counselors for kids and adult guests) dressed all the clubkids up and they came out and demonstrated their various talents. 

When Sadie, Julia and Eloise's turn came, they sang Firework by Katy Perry and it was a kick. I had no idea Sadie knew all/most of the words. It was pretty exciting to see her so into it and performing with new friends - and her costume was great! (I'll try to post video next week - can't from my phone. ) 

Sawyer was mesmerized throughout (also exhausted).

After the kids talent show we stayed for the cabaret show (rated PG show for all guests, not just families). A silly drag routine with audience participation absolutely cracked the girls up as did one in which GOs reclaimed their clothing off another singing GOs back until he was singing My Way in his underpants. 

When sawyer got too tired to stay any longer, I took him back to the room and Julia's parents brought Sadie to the room when it was done. Sadie had a great night and got a medal and really wowed me.

And Sawyer was, as always, a lovebug, soaking it all up.

Another successful day.

Ixtapa: Wednesday - Iguanas!

These things wander around the grounds all day and Sawyer is fascinated. 

Ixtapa: Wednesday - Bartending for Children

Sawyer was so sad at baby club drop off the past two days that I asked the head of family services if there were any other options for him with older kids or more activities. Immediately, he was transferred into the mini club Geckos - the mini club group for 4-5 year olds.

The Geckos do a lot of their activities with the 6-7 year olds so Sawyer spent much of his day with Sadie and he was delighted (as was she). I don't know exactly what they did all day, but the final activity they were still doing at pick up time was learning to mix drinks - nonalcoholic of course. Is this vacation or trade school? 

They were pretty tasty drinks in any case.

Sadie and Sawyer were sitting side by side when I arrived and that made me really happy. Good kids, these. 

Ixtapa: Tuesday - Pinata Time!

After dinner, it was pinata time in the theater. Both kids made solid contact with their prey.

After Mini Club, Sadie went to dinner with her mini club friends and Sawyer and I hung out and watched mariachis and the sunset. 

I'm so glad to have this time to relax(ish) with this sweet boy.

Ixtapa: Sawyer's Sailboat - Part 1

Sawyer was so sad at dropoff this morning that I picked him up right after he woke from his nap (almost two hours early) to take him to do something special. 

Because Sawyer isn't yet 6, I couldn't actually take him sailing. Nevertheless, we walked way down the beach to the boat shack where they let us sit on a Hobie that was tied up to a buoy just off the beach.  I'm pretty sure this was about as much as he would tolerate today. 

Anyway, he looked the sailor part and I enjoyed hanging out with him. He is a beautiful boy with amazing spirit. So happy!

Ixtapa: Monday - These Kids Clean Up Good

After the beach, the kids were a sandy mess and I broke from my plan and directed them both into our giant shower and bathed them and washed their hair. There was very little fussing. 

Afterwards, they looked so nice that I dressed them up a little and we headed off to dinner. 

It was a lovely evening.
