This came home from school with Sawyer recently.

MLK Day Adventure

Everybody was off work and out of school yesterday, but I had an 8:30 am eye doctor appointment in midtown. Not wanting to spend the morning alone, I convinced Sadie to come with me by promising her an unspecified adventure. Then I scrambled to come up with something deserving of my excellent adventure buddy's day.

Sadie was a patient friend of a patient at the doctor's office. She watched the news and read and generally lounged in the waiting area. And soon enough I was done and ready to go.

Here's an aside: before we left the doctor's office I asked sadie if she needed the bathroom and she replied, "I already went." And I said, "when? At home?" And she said, "No. There." And she pointed to the hallway around the corner where the restroom was. And my point is this: our baby girl asked the receptionist where the bathroom was and then took herself there and didn't make a big deal or any deal about it. She's a big kid!

Anyway, back to our adventure.
The weather was bright and clear and hovering around 20 degrees, so what better than a boat ride in NY Harbor?!

So windy and chilly!

But our destination made it worth the trouble.

We climbed as high as the top of the pedestal - you have to reserve tickets at least three months in advance if you want to go up to the crown.

Sadie was surprisingly interested in the audioguide tour and the exhibits.

So it was an amazing day and Sadie ended the day by telling her mommy that for most of the day she was "mostly controlled by joy."
I'm so happy.
