Sawyer's First Day of School!

The good news is, he didn’t want to hold the sign because he was SO excited to go to his first day of big boy school. 

Well, “day” might be a strong word. This was last Thursday on the first day of “phase-in”, so went for an hour and then longer the next and then finally yesterday he had his first full day with lunch and nap and everything. 

He says he has "so many friends" (but doesn't know any of their names - we'll get there) and seems happy to go back. What a pro!

New Year in the Park

Sawyer hasn't started school yet and Sadie had Monday and Tuesday off for Rosh Hashanah as did I - but mommy had to work. The kids spent most of Tuesday with the babysitter while I did house projects, but at 4:30 when the babysitter left I decided we should start the New Year off right with a walk in the park. And since it wasn't raining for a change, we strolled up to Prospect Park with a soccer ball just for kicks.

These kids are naturals.

Afterwards, we stopped for frozen yogurt - before dinner! 

The year 5779 is off to a great start! 

First Day of First Grade

Our little girl starts first grade today. We took her up to school and met her teacher and saw her classmates and they are all very nice. When we left she was already sitting on the carpet reading a book with a friend. 

It is going to be a fine year!

Ixtapa: Tha Voyage Home

Our flight out of Zihuatanejo was at 2PM Saturday so there was a lot of hurrying Saturday morning. 

Hurry to finish packing, hurry to breakfast, hurry to pack some sandwiches for the kids' lunch, hurry back to the room for bathing suits (and that infernal inflatable dolphin).

Then we hurried to the pool where Sawyer played happily with the dolphin while Sadie dived for coins in the shallow end. 

We gave the dolphin to a family who were staying another week, then we hurried back to the room, got dressed, and got a cab to the airport. 

The kids were a little nutty at the airport, but, once again, they both fell asleep on the short flight to Mexico City.

We're had a 3 hour layover in Mexico City and they were both exhausted but they held it together. 

Neither slept on the long flight to JFK, preferring to watch Happy Feet Two again and again - not until the last hour when they both flopped over on my lap. 

Getting through JFK and immigration control was an odyssey - I carried a sleepy Sawyer while sleepy Sadie helped sort passports - and we made it through smoothly.

Once we got in the cab home from JFK, they were completely wired and loopy, yelling and singing for the entire 40 minute drive. 

They practically exploded when they saw mommy waiting on the front stoop at 2AM. 

Then they spent an hour telling mommy about Mexico before finally going to bed. 

These kids are AMAZING travelers and splendid companions and I feel incredibly fortunate and grateful to Victoria for my big week in Ixtapa with them. IT WAS TERRIFIC!
