What we have here is a photo of my girls riding the DFW airport train.
Sadie seems to have picked up the basics long before she will need them. Anyway, it is never too soon to start building safe subway riding habits.

Big Piano

Jonathan found this big piano toy at what those outside the NY metro area call a "yard sale". Score!

We're still practicing "Heart and Soul", but here she is working on her scales.

Walkin in Santa Cruz

After a long day of flying Thursday, we settled in nicely at the Hendins' and have gotten on local time with relative ease. While we have all come down with colds, the fresh California air seems to have had a stimulating effect on Sadie's walking skills. Check it out!

Papa-only Morning!

Mommy is in Virginia touting the benefits of Fabrēze so I did my very first dinner through breakfast solo nonstop with Sadie. Bathtime and bedtime were a snap. We even made it through her 4am wakeup with a quick bottle and got her back to sleep. She then slept until 7:30 while I couldn't get back to sleep at all. She was a little perplexed to find that mommy wasn't there in the morning when she came into our bedroom, but she took it in stride
Anyway, I know it is a quotidian task for some, but I was nervous so it feels like an accomplishment.  I even managed to get her looking nice for her day with the babysitters and other kids across the street as evidenced hereinabove.

Sadie's Hog

While the upstairsigans are away on vacation we figured it would be a good time for Sadie to take their kid's scoot out for a test drive. She looks right at home!

Sadie likes ice cream... sort of.

After Sadie's walking performance, we all went for ice cream and Sadie tried mommy's 'Minty Moose Tracks' ice cream.  We think she liked it, but it might have been a little cold for her delicate little tongue.

The four of us (inc. Jasper) drove out to Jersey today to visit our friends Eric and Kristi and their two kids.  While we were there, Sadie demonstrated her walking skills for everyone.

Skillz

Sadie has had a big week now that she is in her second year.

Big news first: she walked!!! Yesterday morning, Sadie took about 5 steps right across the floor. She has been threatening to for a couple weeks, but let it be known that she went for it on July 19! Obviously we are trying to get this feat on tape, but it's hard to do. She seems to do better when she's holding something in her hands. I don't know why.

Other new skills:

-climbing on things. She loves when all the parents lie on the floor so she has an obstacle course to climb over and over. Also I will turn around and she will be on top of the ottoman or chair. I spot her now, but she is pretty good at getting down elegantly by herself.

-saying "hi" (more like "hah-eeee")

-pointing

-drinking from a straw (also need to document- it's so cute when she purses her little lips)

-shaking her head "yes" and "no" (uh oh). I can't be sure she knows what they mean, but I think so. She definitely associates a head shake with No because when I say a word that sounds like No she starts shaking away.

-sharing toys (and promptly asking for them back). See picture with Gabriel.

-reading the New Yorker (starting from the back just like Mommy).

One Whole Year

These are from last week, of course. With Papa home, we have been busy spending quality time together and with friends, waiting out the heat.

Sadie has decided that now that she is one, she is going to be even awesomer. I will post separately about all her new goings on.

Sadie's First Birthday!!

Yesterday was Sadie's first birthday and it was a roaring success.  Victoria did an amazing job putting this together.  I feel very fortunate.  
I'm going to let the photos speak for themselves.

Bath Time

It's been nice to have a couple nights off from the play to do the bath and bedtime routine myself. Apparently she has been giving her sitters a hard time with this part.

Doggy kisses

Sorry for the wind tunnel sound effects. I guess the fan was blowing right across the mic.
I like the menacing way she waves bye bye to the dog. This one was given to her by Grandma Vicki.

Pretty Girl

Looks like we are in for another scorcher, but luckily Sadie doesn't mind playing indoors. I am looking forward to her first birthday next week. She is looking very grown up!

Here she is with the puppy Grandma India gave her, which she loves to kiss and snuggle.

We miss all our far-flung family!
