Getting Out There

Many of you probably heard about our first stomach bug last week. It was terrible. Sadie and I were sick at the same time. It was quick but I felt like we were still catching up days later. This combined with the terrible cold weather have made for a case of cabin fever. 

This week I finally got sick of staying home, so we've been trying to take advantage of various playspaces. The first one is the drop-in play center at the synagogue, where Sadie learned to drive and did her first art! It was a productive morning.

The second is a huge new cafe in Gowanus that has a built-in play area. Sadie and her 10-month-old friend, Gracelyn, checked it out today. Sadie got a little excited about the baby. We are still working on "gentle".

Sadie's hair is finally long enough that it can be styled a little... a very little.  Anyway, it is unexpected how thrilling it is to see our little girl bobbling around with pigtails. She suddenly looks like a real little girl.

Sadie had not been to brunch or really any sit down? restaurant with us for a while so I wasn't sure what to expect. When we got to the restaurant they brought me a high chair but instead of putting Sadie in it I just set her in the chair beside me like a big girl. And guess what! She say there and ate and drank and behaved really well... for about half an hour. Anyway, it was long enough to enjoy my meal. Then we walked around the restaurant and Sadie danced to Elvis and then she sat some more and then she stood on her chair and then sat on my lap and ate raisins and it was lovely. The waiters all remarked on how well behaved she was.
I'm so excited about her coming along and doing things. It is getting so fun!!!

Sadie goes a'brunchin'!

18-Month-Old Blur

Sadie is a full-on toddler and is all over the place, as you see.

She had her checkup this week, and the doctor said she is perfect. That's what I heard, anyway. She is on the tall and skinny side, but growing well and right on track to be a little genius. 

She has gotten a lot more verbal lately-- the other day there were three instances where she pointed to something, I named it, and she said it right back almost perfectly (rather than taking a stab at it and then perfecting different versions over a period of days). I think the words were hummus, nuts and some other food word. She points "this" and then I name everything she points to. 

Also, I don't want to say this too loudly, but it's possible she will be ready to start using a potty in the next few months. She knows when she needs a new diaper and sometimes tries to pull it down herself. We got her a little potty of her own and are getting her used to the idea of sitting on it. It's pretty cute the way she says "pah-TEE". We'll see how it goes....

It's hard work being silly!

A little credit for Sadie's splendidness goes to one or more of Sadie's parents for being vigorous and attractive people. Here is us cross country skiing up in Maine last week while grandma India babysat. Thanks for the afternoons grandma!!

Our Little Beat Poet

We are loving having a Whole Foods only three blocks from our front door. It turns out it is a great place to take Sadie for lunch. She can engage in all her toddlerish antics and there is no waitstaff or patron at the next table with a legitimate expectation of peace and quiet to give us the evil eye. And the in-house noodle restaurant is quite good.  Hooray!!
Oh, and let me just say, HOLY COW our girl is a pretty little thing!!
