Sunday Adventure with Sadie

Summer is OVER!!

But as I mentioned, this weekend was beautiful and hot and Sunday was Sadie’s and my day for an adventure.  Sadie and headed out on my bike around 10:45 and rode around the neighborhood for a bit.  

Eventually, I convinced her we should ride down to Brooklyn Bridge Park to see what fun we could rustle up. 

At BB park, Sadie played for a bit at one of the big amazing playgrounds.

Then we headed along the waterfront and over to DUMBO.

In DUMBO, we went to Shake Shack for lunch – always a winner.

I told Sadie that some people like to dip their french fries in their milkshakes.  She immediately grabbed a fry and tried it and she loved it.

After lunch, we stumbled into Photoville!  A pop-up exhibition in a parking lot with dozens and dozens of shipping containers stacked two stories high, each one a separate photography gallery.  Most of the work was documentary or photojournalism and it was pretty neat.  

And behind the exhibition area there was a big lawn with photo-related family activities food vendors and amazing orange inflatable seating thingies.  

Sadie assembled a giant photo puzzle of an owl in record time!

But those orange thingies were Sadie’s favorite part of the day.

Sometimes I think Brooklyn is a pretty amazing backdrop for my kids to grow up with.

Then we headed home.

Sadie is just 7 years old, but she has become a lot of amazing person.  She talks about things and thinks about things and is simply remarkable.  I felt lucky to get to spend a day with her.

Saturday Adventure with Sawyer

Happy First Day of Autumn!

This weekend was beautiful and a little hot in the city.  Still, it felt like it had been I while since I took the kids on adventures so on Saturday I took Sawyer and Frankie to singalong at CBE.  Afterwards, I dropped Frankie off with mommy and Sadie in Prospect Park where Sadie was playing soccer, then Sawyer and I headed to the subway for an adventure.

We started by taking three trains rather than one (weekend service issues) to get to Bowling Green.  

At Bowling Green, we boarded the Staten Island Ferry for a lovely and breezy ride out to S.I. and back.  Sawyer loooooved it.  He stood at the rail and watched the water and the other boats and the Statue of Liberty and everything and was just mesmerized by all of it.

On the ride back to Manhattan, we sat on the very front of the lowest deck - where the cars drive on and off.  We had a great view of the skyline and everything.  It was pretty cool.

When we got back to Manhattan, we walked over to the Sea Glass Carousel.  I rode it once with Sawyer and then her rode it alone one more time.  Each time, he got to pick the exact fish he wanted to ride in.  He was pretty pleased.

Then we had a hotdog from a street vendor.  

And then we headed back to Brooklyn.  It was a long day and my splendid boy was pretty pooped by the time we got home.  It was a good adventure!

Summer Wrap-Up

Goodbye, summer! There is a chill in the air and everyone is ready for a little structure, but it was a great one! Here are some miscellaneous photos that may have slipped through the cracks. Happy days.
