Go USA!!!

V has an acting gig for the next several days so Sadie is at the daycare-babysitter-share across the street.

And boy do these babysitters go above and beyond!  They seem to have organized some sort of event to cheer on Team USA Soccer in the World Cup today as evidenced by this photo that I just received.

That is our daughter in the middle with a topknot holding a "Go USA" sign.  AMAZING!!
And here they are watching the game.
Apparently, their enthusiasm propelled the USA to a result adequate to move to the next round of the tournament (however cryptic that might seem, the actual calculus of the thing is even deeper and harder to comprehend -- the USA lost to Germany by a small margin (1-0) and Portugal beat Ghana, so the USA moves to the next round).  HOORAY!!

Splashing About!

[A NOTE TO OUR READERS: Now that Sadie is making friends and doing things with other children, it is becoming difficult to manage introducing all these new children and their parents in posts without the writing beginning to feel unwieldy.  Therefore, after this post, we may just refer to our friends and their children by first name as if you have already met them rather than try to introduce them all and put them into context.  You can just think of these unintroduced named people as our friends you have not met.]

We went to Gabriel's birthday party today in the neighborhood.  Gabriel is a boy one month older than Sadie.  Gabriel's parents are Lena and Matthew.  Lena was Victoria's cousin Lelah's good friend in college.  We are friends with Lena and Matthew.  Unwieldy!

In any case, Sadie spend a lot of time in and around the kiddie pool being excited and active.  It is possible that we have the most active and busy two year old we know.  Watch!

The Rare Evening in Manhattan

Today was our little friend Vera's fifth birthday so Scott and Esther organized a small group dinner at Katz's Delicatessen on Houston.  Sadie was super well behaved and had a lovely time.  It was especially nice to see Sadie befriending Vera.
After dinner, we all walked across the street to Il Laboratorio Del Gelato and tried some fancy flavors (I had Black Mission Fig, Toasted Almond, and Salted Caramel.  Victoria had Basil and Strawberry.  Sadie had all five flavors.)
Despite it being past her bedtime, Sadie was even well behaved on the subway ride home.
All in all, it was a perfect Summer evening in NYC.

This is Vera, Scott and Esther's daughter. She is wearing a birthday mermaid outfit.

In an interesting coincidence, this outfit I picked out for Sadie this morning is actually a hand-me-down from Vera!  Neither Victoria nor I remembered this until Esther saw Sadie and said, "Hey!! I know that outfit!!"

Those are my girls!  Same happy ice cream face!

Our kid likes her gelato!!

I think she might have been humming No Sleep 'til Brooklyn.

Father's Day Ridealong

Jonathan has been looking forward to bringing Sadie on bike rides for some time, so today he finally went and bought a bike seat and took Sadie for her first bike ride around the park. She was excited as soon as she saw the seat and kept saying "Sadie's seat. Sadie go to the bikes."

Water Time!

Sadie has discovered the water feature at the park. On sunny days we are usually prepared to get wet, but it was overcast today and I was too tired to prevent Sadie from following a little boy into the water fully dressed. She didn't seem to mind. It's nice that we live close enough to the playground that we can always dash home and change. What a little adventure girl.

Clown Car!

The weather was splendid yesterday, if a little bit muggy, so we hung out in front of the house for a couple hours.  We were joined there by our upstairs neighbors, Marc and Rachel, and their two boys, Louie and Ruben.  Sadie's little car was quite a hit.
That is Louie on the roof and Ruben in the car with Sadie.

Sadie exits the vehicle Dukes of Hazzard style.

Learning to Ride a Bike!

I am pretty sure there will be a lot more posts with the same title as this one.  But this one is the first and we're pretty excited about it so it gets an exclamation point!

Sadie Miscellany

Lelah's Visit

I swear I wrote a post about my cousin Lelah's visit, but apparently I sent it to Jonathan instead of to the blog. Here are the photos of Sadie and Lelah, who was in town recently on her way to her college reunion.
